The immediate one, finished in a variety of colours and finishes, surrounds an inner realm, viewed through a portal reminiscent of a ship’s porthole, which promises something distant from the immediate. ]]> Each panel in the Portal series presents two realms. The immediate one, finished in a variety of colours and finishes, surrounds an inner realm, viewed through a portal reminiscent of a ship’s porthole, which promises something distant from the immediate.

The panels’ shape arose from a previous artwork, a commission from Campari, CodexCampari, designed to emulate an App icon in 3d. The corners are rounded and the surface appears cushioned and smooth, inviting the viewer to touch but at the same time, as an art object, forbids them to do so. They also reference Russian icons and Malevich’s Black Square.

Portal #1 to #6 to be viewed separately or in groupings: acrylic paint and spray, gesso, mdf, 25 x 25 x 3cm.
